2008 - WORK ON THE LIBRARY BEGINS

Restoration of the elaborately decorated Medieval Flemish style library began in the spring. Restoring the library ceiling included cleaning the existing decorative elements and then recreating areas that were severely damaged or lost. Joseph Burr Tiffany, who designed the first-floor interiors, described his design for the library as, “Somewhere that breathes of old Flemish—not…what the Dutch settlers were accustomed to here, but what they left behind in Holland.”

The work restoring the ceiling and walls was done by September 2008; repair and restoration of the elaborate stained-glass windows was completed in April 2017.
