Winter 1984 - WORK ON CLEARING THE VIEWSHED BEGINS

The early work focuses on opening the southern view from the mansion to the river.  For Daisy, the restoration of the viewshed is visible progress, “Isn’t that a lovely view down there?” she says in her oral history, “I haven’t had that view for years. We used to have it. Only this winter they cut it through so that we could see way down. The lighthouse is just to the left, you see.  You can see way down and way off the Highlands.”

Work clearing the viewshed continued year-by-year and is complete by October 1992.  It turns out the view works both ways; Wilderstein can now be seen by passing Amtrak trains.
